You may or may not have heard that there is a critical patch that is being pushed by Microsoft today.
There seems to be vulnerability with the server service. Most home machines will not use the server service but if you have or have ever had a file share on your computer then you probably have this service renabled on your Windows based computer
Oh, and judging by the hype and scrambling it would be very prudent to patch this as soon as possible. fast install, one reboot and your are safe.

• Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 or 2 patch download

You are right most home users doesn’t even use their computer as a home service but even if the users don’t have a home network using a computer as a primary server they should install it as a precuation.
